The prestigious London museum has awarded Olivier Kugler its prize for best illustrator of the year. He received the award for his thirty-page journal entitled Un Thé en Iran (A Tea in Iran), documenting a part of his travels in Iran. The work will be shown at the Victoria & Albert Museum until 17 December 2011.
The judge was Rob Ryan, a contemporary artist. According to The Guardian, Kugler’s work was praised for “the detail, the richness, the energy [and] the humour” of his drawings. The award includes prize-money of £6,500.
Illustrators Laura Carlin and Lorenzo Petrantoni also received awards in different categories. The Victoria & Albert Museum has been awarding the prize since 1972.
