Two new acquisitions by Getty Museum in Los Angeles

Los Angeles, 9 February 2012, Art Media Agency (AMA).

Getty Museum announced on Wednesday 8 February 2012 the acquisition of two new works: a 15th century wooden panel painting and an 18th century French sketch.

The Trinity with the Virgin, John the Apostle, St Stephen, St Lawrence and a patron (1479) is believed to have been created in the studio of Peter Hemmen Von Andlau, master glassmaker from Strasbourg. It perfectly reflects the austere style of German religious painting of the 15th century. Before joining the museum’s collections, the painting was displayed in New York at the Richard Feigen gallery, in an exhibition that ended on 27 January 2012.

The second acquisition by Getty Museum is a drawing by French artist Jean-Honoré Fragonard, entitled La faiseuse de crêpes (The crepe maker) dating from 1782. Realised in charcoal and ink in a ricoco style, the work depicts a domestic scene where a woman prepares crepes for her children. This painting will join two works by the artist already in the museum’s collection.

The German work will be put on public display as part of a large exhibition entitled “Renaissance drawings from Germany and Switzerland, 1460-1600″ which will open 27 March 2012. The French work will be exhibited at the gallery from 6 March 2012.
