Montevideo, 9 February 2012, Art Media Agency (AMA).
The first Montevideo contemporary art biennial is set to take place on 15 October 2012. Entitled “Big Sur”, the theme of the show will be the relationship between South American nations and those on other continents. The show will invite international artists and galleries to exhibit their art works, and will be the first time that an art festival has been organised on such a scale in Uruguay.
Under the direction of Gustavo Tabares, the Montevideo Biennial is financially supported by the Laetitia d’Arenberg Foundation. The curator will be Alfons Hug, the director of the Goethe Institute in São Paulo and former curator of the Brazilian city’s biennial. He will be assisted by Paz Guevara and Patricia Bertancur, director of exhibitions at Montevideo’s Spanish Cultural Centre.
The first Montevideo biennial will take place in multiple venues around the Uruguayan capital: the Rural del Prado exhibition centre, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Figari Museum and National Museum of Visual Arts.
