Kansas City, 17 February 2012, Art Media Agency (AMA).
Art dealer Bill Brady today, 17 February 2012, opened a gallery in his name in his home town of Kansas City (Missouri). He had previously been based in New York since 2001, at first in East Village, and then in Chelsea. His gallery was named ATM, due to the fact that a cash point had been installed in the gallery in order to help finance it.
The opening of this gallery comes as part of the refurbishment of West Bottoms, a former animal market in the city. The restoration project aims to promote the cultural life of the city and the opening of art galleries. Bill Brady has opened his exhibition space in a building previously occupied by Daily Drovers Telegram, a newspaper dedicated to the animal market. Apart from the gallery, the building is also to house a wine house and a publicity agency.
The moving of this gallery to Kansas City comes three years after John O’Brien chose to move his Dolphin Gallery to the city. Named the Plug Projects, it is a gallery ran by five local artists. John O’Brien actively participated in the design of the Bill Brady gallery and of the wine house housed in the same building.
The first exhibition to be presented at the Bill Brady gallery is titled “East West Shift to the Middle”. It will bring together artists from both the east and west coasts of the United States as well as from the centre, with such names as Art Miller, Jaimie Warren and Rashawn Griffin.
According to the committee tasked with the regeneration of West Bottoms, the Bill Brady has already had a positive impact, attracting collectors from different american states. The aim of the project is to establish a centre for the American art market, equal to those of New York and Los Angeles.
