Parsons New School for Design’s new project

New York, 18 September 2012. Art Media Agency (AMA).

An unusually interactive and interdisciplinary laboratory will open its doors this fall at the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center (SJDC) of the Parsons New School for Design. This artistic laboratory will be titled: “Art, Environment, Action !” During four months this creation workshop will gather a diversified range of artists, designers, architects, dancers, chefs and scientists, working together at the crossing of art, pedagogy and ecology.

Designed as a “toy box” of possibilities, the gallery will be continuously transformed thanks to dynamic programs relying on the public’s participation. Visitors are invited to join workshops, outdoors explorations, walks, dialogues and other interactive exchanges led by the artists, encouraging their active participation as makers and thinkers.

“We see the galleries as spaces where to think, rather than just as venues for display,” says Radhika Subramaniam, Director and Chief Curator of the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center and the curator of the lab. “Art, Environment, Action!”  is about catalyzing a culture of conversation, creative experience, and action. It is co-created by participants and artists.” Exhibitions question environmental and agricultural issues, urban food systems or climate change.
