Italian art glass by Venini at Christie’s Paris

Paris, 25 October 2012, Art Media Agency (AMA).

Christie’s Paris announced the auction of the August Warnecke collection on 21 November 2012, including about 170 pieces of Italian art glass by Venini.

Venini and Warneke were a true duo of art glass enthusiasts. Inspired by glassworks present in famous paintings by Tiziano, Caravaggio and Veronesi, they wished to reproduce the reflection of the light emblematic of classical Florentine painting masterpieces. The collection includes pieces realised from 1940s to 1980s, by master Venini himself as well as renowned masters working for him. The collection is estimated between €350,000 and €500,000.

Among the star pieces of the auction can be mentioned:

  • pieces by Carlo Scarpa (Laccati “Neri e Rossi” vase and cup, respectively estimated between €30,000 and €50,000 and €15,000 and €20,000)
  • the “Murrine triangolari” vase by Fulvio Bianconi, estimated between €12,000 and €15,000
  • the “Murrine romane” cup by Carlo Scarpa, estimated between €8,000 and €12,000
  • the “Mosaico zanfirico” vase by Venini himself, estimated between €4,000 and €5,000

Works will be on show from 18 to 20 November.
